President Droupadi Murmu Begins Five-Day Visit to Madhya Pradesh, Odisha

President Droupadi Murmu has commenced a significant five-day official visit to Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, focusing on tribal empowerment, public health, higher education, environmental conservation, and International Yoga Day celebrations. The visit, scheduled from June 18 to June 22, highlights several key national initiatives and includes engagements across Betul, Omkareshwar, Jabalpur, Kuno National Park, and Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

Focus on Tribal Welfare and Spiritual Empowerment

The President began her tour in Madhya Pradesh by attending the programme “Empowerment of Tribal Society through Spiritual Awakening” organized by the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya in Betul. The event emphasized social development, education, and empowerment of tribal communities through spiritual and value-based initiatives. Upon her arrival in Indore, President Murmu was welcomed by Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

International Sickle Cell Day Observance

On June 19, President Murmu participated in International Sickle Cell Day programmes at Omkareshwar. The event underscored the government’s commitment to addressing sickle cell anaemia, a disease that disproportionately affects tribal populations across central India. The observance aligns with India’s mission to eliminate sickle cell disease as a major public health challenge.

Odisha Engagements and Development Initiatives

The President also travelled to Odisha, where she inaugurated several public welfare and infrastructure projects in her home region of Mayurbhanj district. During the visit, she joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi in developmental programmes and interacted with students, beneficiaries, and local residents. Major projects related to healthcare, water supply, and rural development were highlighted during the visit.

Jabalpur to Host International Yoga Day Celebrations

One of the most anticipated events of the tour will take place on June 21 in Jabalpur, where President Murmu will participate in the International Day of Yoga celebrations. Thousands of yoga practitioners, students, government officials, and citizens are expected to join the mass yoga session. The event reinforces India’s global leadership in promoting yoga as a holistic approach to health and well-being.

Rani Durgavati University Convocation

Following the Yoga Day programme, the President will attend the 36th Convocation of Rani Durgavati University as Chief Guest. She is expected to address graduating students on education, nation-building, innovation, and leadership, while awarding degrees and medals to meritorious scholars.

Visit to Kuno National Park

The final phase of the tour includes a visit to Kuno National Park, which has gained international attention through India’s cheetah reintroduction programme. The visit is expected to showcase the country’s wildlife conservation efforts and ecological restoration initiatives.

Significance of the Visit

President Murmu’s five-day tour reflects the Union Government’s emphasis on tribal development, healthcare awareness, environmental conservation, education, and cultural heritage. The inclusion of International Yoga Day celebrations and visits to tribal-dominated regions further highlights the administration’s focus on inclusive growth and community participation. The tour is also expected to bring national attention to Madhya Pradesh’s growing role in public health, wildlife conservation, and higher education initiatives.
