The maximum strength of the Lok Sabha after the 104th Constitutional Amendment (2020) is:

550 members

  • 530 from the states

  • 20 from the Union Territories

Earlier maximum: 552
Current maximum: 550

The maximum strength of the Lok Sabha, as provided by Article 81 of the Indian Constitution, is 552 members. This includes up to 530 members representing the states, up to 20 members representing the union territories, and up to 2 members from the Anglo-Indian community who could be nominated by the President if not adequately represented. However, the 104th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2019 abolished the nomination of Anglo-Indian members, effective from January 2020.

Currently, the maximum strength is 550 (530 from states and 20 from union territories), but the actual elected strength is 543.
