Google Search Console Adds Reports for Social Posts, Expanding Search Insights Beyond Websites

Google has introduced a significant update to Google Search Console by launching Platform Properties, a new property type that enables creators, publishers, and businesses to track how their social media content performs in Google Search and Discover. The feature marks one of the platform’s biggest expansions in years, extending Search Console analytics beyond traditional websites to include major social and video platforms.

With Platform Properties, users can now monitor the performance of their Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube accounts directly within Search Console. After verifying an eligible account, creators gain access to detailed search data, including impressions, clicks, search queries, and the individual posts or videos that generate traffic from Google Search. The rollout is taking place gradually over the coming weeks.

The update introduces three primary reporting features. The Performance Report provides detailed metrics such as clicks, impressions, click-through rates, and top search queries driving traffic to social content. The Insights Report offers a high-level overview of audience trends and top-performing posts, while a new Achievements section highlights milestones, such as reaching new click thresholds from Google Search over a 28-day period.

Unlike native analytics offered by social platforms, Google’s new reports focus exclusively on how content is discovered through Google Search and Discover. They do not measure in-app engagement such as likes, comments, shares, or watch time. Instead, they reveal how Google users find social content, giving marketers a clearer understanding of search-driven discovery across multiple platforms.

For SEO professionals and digital marketers, the update reflects Google’s broader recognition that valuable content increasingly lives outside traditional websites. Businesses can now evaluate how social posts contribute to overall search visibility, identify topics generating organic interest, and optimize content strategies using real search query data rather than relying solely on platform-specific metrics. This also strengthens the connection between SEO, social media marketing, and content strategy.

Industry experts believe the feature could reshape performance reporting for creators and brands by providing a unified view of how audiences discover content across Google’s ecosystem. As AI-powered search and multimedia search experiences continue to evolve, the ability to measure social content alongside website performance offers marketers a more comprehensive picture of their digital presence.
