The 42nd Amendment added which word to the Preamble?

The 42nd Amendment added which word to the Preamble?

The 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1976 added three words to the Preamble:

  • Socialist

  • Secular

  • Integrity

(“Socialist” and “Secular” were added before Democratic Republic, and “Integrity” was added to the phrase Unity and Integrity of the Nation.)

The 42nd Amendment to the Indian Constitution added the words “socialist” and “secular” to the Preamble. It also changed the phrase “unity of the nation” to “unity and integrity of the nation.” Thus, the Preamble was amended to describe India as a “sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic” ensuring “the unity and integrity of the nation”.
