The Purpose of the Cage

The Purpose of the Cage

A cage was never born to silence wings,
Nor forged to chain the dreams that freedom sings.
It was not shaped to glorify despair,
Or teach the soul that hope is none to share.

The truest cage was never built from hate,
Nor fashioned by the hands of cruel fate.
Its finest purpose lives in gentle care—
To guard a fragile life when storms are there.

Within its bars, an injured eagle heals,
A broken wing remembers how it feels
To ride the endless rivers of the sky,
Until the day it learns again to fly.

The orphaned cub, the frightened, wounded deer,
The creatures trembling under pain and fear,
Find shelter where compassion lights the way,
Until the wild can call them home one day.

For every species standing on the brink,
Whose forests fade much faster than we think,
A refuge may become a sacred place,
Protecting life from greed’s relentless chase.

The cage is not the enemy we name;
The heart that builds it writes its truest claim.
A prison made for power steals the soul,
But mercy makes protection its sole goal.

Humanity has built both walls and doors—
Some born from justice, some from needless wars.
The measure lies not in the steel we see,
But in the reason for captivity.

To hold the violent lest the innocent bleed,
To shelter those recovering in need,
To nurse the weak until their strength returns—
These are the lessons every conscience learns.

Let every cage remember why it stands:
Not as a monument to harsh commands,
But as a promise whispered, strong and true—
“I guard this life until the sky calls you.”

For freedom is the destiny of all;
Protection is its guardian before the call.
The noblest cage is one that knows its part:
To save a life, not imprison a heart.

So build no bars that crush the human flame,
Nor lock away a soul in fear or shame.
Let every refuge open when it’s time,
For liberty remains nature’s greatest rhyme.

A cage should never be the final place,
But only hope wrapped in a brief embrace.
For when compassion is the hand that leads,
The cage becomes the shelter every life needs.
