NEET UG Re-Test 2026: Madhya Pradesh High Court Seeks Centre’s Response Over Alleged Marks Discrepancy
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has sought a response from the Central Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) on a petition filed by a NEET UG Re-Test 2026 candidate alleging significant discrepancies between his recorded answers, the official answer key, and the marks awarded in the final result. The Indore Bench granted the Centre one week’s time to file its reply, indicating that the matter raises issues requiring judicial examination.
The petitioner, a medical aspirant from Jhabua district, contended that his Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet and the evaluation reflected in the result do not correspond with the official answer key. According to the plea, several answers that were allegedly correct were either not evaluated properly or were assigned incorrect marks, adversely affecting his overall score and rank in the highly competitive examination.
The petition argues that the alleged discrepancy has serious consequences for the candidate’s prospects of securing admission to MBBS and other undergraduate medical courses. It seeks judicial directions for a transparent verification of the OMR sheet, re-evaluation of the answer sheet in accordance with the official key, and appropriate correction of the result if any error is established.
During the hearing, the High Court did not express any opinion on the merits of the allegations but considered it appropriate to obtain the stand of the Union Government and the NTA before proceeding further. The Court accordingly granted time for filing a detailed response, after which the matter will be taken up for further consideration.
The case comes amid a series of legal challenges relating to the NEET UG Re-Test 2026. Several candidates across different High Courts have raised concerns over alleged irregularities in score calculation, OMR evaluation, and result processing. Similar petitions have recently been filed before the Bombay High Court and other judicial forums by candidates claiming discrepancies in their re-test results.
The outcome of the Madhya Pradesh High Court proceedings could have wider implications for candidates seeking judicial review of their NEET UG Re-Test results. If the Court finds merit in the allegations, it may reinforce the need for greater transparency and accountability in the evaluation process conducted by the NTA, particularly in high-stakes national entrance examinations where even minor errors can substantially affect admissions and career prospects.
